An AXYZ 4010 CNC router, incorporating a combined AXYZ ICS (Intelligent Cutting System) and oscillating knife, is helping boost productivity at ThinkBDW. Established in 1988, ThinkBDW has grown steadily to attain its present status as the UK's foremost provider of integrated sign and display solutions to the house building industry that are designed and produced at the company's 3,600 square-metre facility in Colchester, Essex.
The core business of ThinkBDW is based on both rigid external signage and flexible point-of-sale and exhibition display material used in the marketing suites and show houses of developers throughout the UK. The AXYZ router featuring the combined ICS and oscillating knife facility is used for cutting and shaping materials after printing. Rob Jupp of ThinkBDW explains: 'We can now more accurately cut pre-printed material used for signage and associated display applications, with the oscillating knife enabling the processing of flexible media such as card and paper. Significantly, the AXYZ solution has eliminated the need for any third-party supplier and enabled us to carry out all production in-house. This has helped speed up productivity, removed the frequently inevitable variables in the quality of output when using outside resources and enabled faster delivery of finished products to customers with a commensurate increase in profitability.
The AXYZ 4010 router has a processing area of 3,048 (length) x 1,524mm (width) and a proven capability for handling sheets of material in a thickness of up to 150mm to accommodate the special requirements of sign manufacturers. It is also available with a host of optional production facilities, including the AXYZ ATC (Automatic Tool Change) function for work requiring multiple tooling.
The AXYZ ICS facility is powered by the latest I-cut® compensation algorithm technology to provide incomparable levels of accuracy when processing both flexible media and thicker sign making materials like aluminium, aluminium composite material (ACM), PVC, acrylic, plywood and medium-density fibreboard (MDF). Compatible with all AXYZ CNC routers and available as an upgrade for existing machine installations, the ICS incorporates both a high-resolution camera imaging function that captures print registration marks and the industry-leading I-cut control software. It also allows connectivity with all industry-leading RIP programs and printers.
On the quality of the service provided by AXYZ, Rob Jupp commented: 'The after-sales service has proved very efficient, with any parts required made available on next-day delivery. In the event of an operational problem, the AXYZ Help Desk is always prepared to take time to talk through the likely cause and offer the appropriate remedy, thereby minimising the need for engineers to be called on site. As to the possibility of future machine upgrades, Rob Jupp concluded: 'We are considering a new floating head for the AXYZ router in order to increase the range of material options that we can accommodate.'
